Art in the Morning: Philip Simmons

Life-size, cut-out figures and icons comes to mind when looking at sculptor, Philip Simmons’ works. But, Simmons wants to translate “comments on current American culture and politics, by creating signs that hang from chains or are wall-mounted” through his artworks. In this specific piece above, “Little Buddies,” the play in politics (red and blue, or democratic versus republican parties) and symbolism (ax versus heart) is active and speaks volumes. Needless to say, Simmons does execute his overarching theme in all pieces he has created thus far.
