Art For Progress

Clash of the Artists >  RETURN TO EVENT LISTING

Art For Progress is at it again. In their quest to unearth the best in emerging art, film, music and fashion, AFP will host their second annual Clash of the Artists this coming November. While last year's competition was a brilliant success, it will be exciting to see what this year brings. Clash of the Artists is the first competition of its kind, where artists from across the globe compete for unique opportunities and prizes in an interactive environment.

The annual competition encompasses genres of visual art, film, fashion, live music, DJ’s, and a new category, “creative”. The interactive judging process allows the on-line community to view short films, listen to music, and see the work of artists and designers from China to New York. Over a five-week voting period, three finalists will be chosen in each category. The competition will culminate with a special live finals multimedia event in March, 2008.

The winners from last year's inaugural competition were given exposure to key persons in their respective industries and a host of other wonderful prizes. Selma Karaca, the fashion winner, was given a consultation with Kelly Cutrone of People's Revolution, and also showed her Spring 2008 Collection in New York Fashion Week. Musical group Quitzow met with top music public relations firm Magnum PR, and held a residency at Pianos this past summer. Filmmaker Daniel Maldonado received a package that included Apple’s Final Cut software courtesy of Tekserve and a weekend film production equipment rental from Abel Cine Tech. DJ Rob Paterson was featured in the annual AFP Winter Music Conference 2007 event in Miami. He also received free music production classes from NYC’s Dubspot.

The competition allows artists to gain exposure regardless of winning. The most far-reaching contestant, Lu Kun of Shanghai, was featured this year in AFP's show during New York Fashion Week. All finalists are also given AFP memberships, valued from $150 to $450. Semi-finalists are offered discounted memberships as well.

Last year, 120 artists were featured, over 4,000 people voted on-line, and over 300 people attended the finals event. AFP will begin accepting artists’ submissions November 15th, with on-line voting to begin on January 8th. Prepare yourself for ‘Clash of the Artists 2008’! Proceeds from the competitions will aid AFP in further developing its arts education program.
